The Process for Painting...

A painting is so much more than a picture. It communicates a message that speaks through the eyes to the viewer's heart.

Digital paintings are no different. With today's very sophisticated technology, I can sit at my monitor and paint with what feels like an oil brush in my hand, applying paints and blending them, just as I have often done with traditional oils.

When I finish, the paintings are transferred to large canvases, stretched and framed (or not) according to your needs. The results are museum-quality works of art. The color is vibrant, the detail glorious. And the pigments are guaranteed against fading for generations to come.

Your Story is part of that process...

I paint portraits from photos that I have loved looking at over time and have probably framed or taped up somewhere. Those are the pictures that say something to me personally or enrich me in some way.

I encourage you to pick poses and pictures that feed your soul. You may have a photo that says just what you want painted, yet the features are distant or blurry, or in some other way obscured. In that case, I would need an additional photo with those things clearly detailed if you want the likeness.

The Procedure for Commissioning a Painting...

Since I paint from photos, the more detail there is in your photo, the more detailed the painting will be. Prints should be clear and at least 3"x5" and digital photos at least 640x480 pixels.

Once you have sent your photos we will talk about what you love about them, what you'd like the painting to say to you. What kind of background you'd like to have, how many subjects will be included in the painting, how complex we plan to make it. We'll talk about the size, to stretch and frame or not, delivery and payment options... and anything else we can think of that will help me give you just what you want.

We'll discuss and agree on my fee at that point, which has to consider all these talking points. I'll send you a contract which you'll sign and return to me.

Then I'll go to work on a composition, and send it to you via email for your approval. We'll talk some more. I won't begin painting until you're satisfied with the layout.

You will be asked before the transfer is made to canvas to approve the painting. At that point, monies can be sent, and we'll arrange delivery of your painting. I guarantee my work, and my goal is to give you an heirloom you'll love to look at.
